Carsphairn is an area rich in local history. Famous people such as the inventor of the McAdam road originated from the Parish, and others, such
as Robert Burns, Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie, have ventured through the hills and glens over the years.
The area was a central part of the Covenanting movement, with a well-known story taking place in the village Manse.
The village boasts its very own Heritage Centre, and you can visit the Heritage Centre website to find out more about the area and its history, historical
walks and museum displays at www.carsphairnheritage.org
The Heritage Centre is open on weekends and Bank Holidays from 25th March and May, then daily until the end of September from 10.30am-5pm Monday to
Saturday (closed Wednesdays) and from 2pm-5pm on Sundays.
